There is no restriction on visitor numbers. However, there is a minimum daily tariff fixed by the government. Your visit must be arranged through an officially approved tour operator, either directly or through an overseas agent.
The daily tariff for tourists visiting in a group of three people or more is US$ 200 per person per day. This includes lodge (double occupancy), meals, guide, driver, and vehicle. It also includes a per day US$ 65 tax the tour operators pay to the government. This minimum cost can vary depending on the size of the visiting group, season, duration of stay, and your itinerary. You will have to pay separately for liquor, beer, mineral water, bottled soft drinks, laundry, and Bhutanese hot-stone bath.
The Royal Government of Bhutan has decided to raise the daily tourist tariff to US$ 250 per person per day effective from 1 January 2012. The government will also discontinue the low-season tariff from 1 July 2011 this year.
Individual travelling (with a guide, of course) is common, but comes at a higher tariff rate. Individual tourists and couples are subject to FIT (foreign independent travelers) surcharge, over and above the daily rate. The surcharge is US$ 40 per day for one person and US$ 30 per day per person for a group of two people.
Tour Programs booked and subsequently cancelled shall be subject to cancellation charges as follows:
